Everything was indeed Poetry

Unforgettable doesn’t even begin to describe our Commemoration of the International Women’s Day. I have to say, true to our promise, we delivered an experience that will stay with us forever!

The sheer amount of talent in that room was mind-blowing. They had the power to make everyone in the room delve into their deepest emotions and question everything they thought they knew. It was a fusion of dance, theatre, art, music, and poetry that created something truly remarkable. Trust me, words won’t be enough. You had to be there, you just had to!

We explored heavy topics like genocides, wars, mental health, women’s empowerment, and love. These society-driven issues sparked conversation and shared views like never before. MaZweli took to the stage and left us all in awe. Her poems painted vivid images of child soldiers, genocides, and wars that resonated deeply. And when the NoName Dance Crew joined her, their movements were so fluid and captivating that it felt as if they were dancing to the rhythm of Mazweli’s words.

The stage was graced by the presence of her Majesty Keylar Justin and Kimoe. Keylar and Kimoe’s collaboration was a perfect blend of dance and poetry. Keylar explained how Kimoe’s moves were a reflection of her words, so it was crucial for him to bring out the right emotions, and boy, did they deliver! Their performance left us wanting more, captivated by their talent and chemistry on stage.

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Hope took our breath away with her very first piece. It delved into the matters of the heart. The ups and downs of love. There was a delightful playfulness to her words that had the audience smiling non stop. In her last two pieces, she managed to bring out emotions as she spoke on the grey lines of society and existence and concluded with a second generation view of Zimbabwe’s very own genocide and its contemporary effects.

Then came Reilo, who took us on a journey of discovery through his well strung strings, mesmerizing the audience with his exotic tunes. His collaboration with Trybee, was captivating. Enchanting rather.  It even prompted the audience to believe in an alternate reality, where Trybee is rapper. Her pieces focused on the often overlooked subject of men’s mental health, shedding light on the issues surrounding toxic masculinity and how its a result of patriarchy.

Cuben Voice delivered a powerful presentation on broken homes, dysfunctional families and toxic relationships, touching on how they affect not only the partners but also the children involved. Her commanding voice shook the stage, and her tears stirred the crowd. The depth of her emotions was truly palpable. at the end of her performance, she made emphasis on healing childhood trauma when there is still time.

Zarae hypnotized us with her soulful love songs. She made us feel like a part of her performance, creating an engaging and joyful environment that the audience couldn’t help but reciprocate with double the energy! She even went on a talent hunt and had members of the audience singing and rapping to a cover song. Her musical blend with Reilo would make you believe in soulmates.

Torah Nkomo, took the phrase, “paint me a picture” literally and painted Sisa’s words on canvas and produced a beautiful abstract painting. Each stroke of color conveyed a different emotion, shedding light on issues that society would otherwise refer to as taboo. They shared a world view of politics, propaganda and society,s lack of empathy.

Starlight couldn’t contain her excitement as she stood before the massive audience, who were already buzzing with anticipation. Her most  challenging piece was her piece about deadbeat father, the trauma they leave on their children and issues of abandonment. It sparked so much controversy that the audience had a myriad of questions, some which were left unanswered. Yes, you read right, we abandoned the conversation.

The closing act was from SoxThePoet  True to form, he delivered an extraordinary performance that captivated the audience  with “The Great Beyond” being his main act touching on what the ideal world would look like were diversity and identity were a uniting force. He then performed two more pieces upon request and shared his views on international relations through his piece “Bipolar Personalities”  and ended with , “The One” a piece whose only reason is to display his charm and wit to an unsuspecting volunteer from the audience. That piece is naughty for no reason.
